The EHV-1 situation at Desert International Horse Park is worsening. To date, 5 horses have tested positive, but the good news is this is the non-neurological form of the disease so all should make a full recovery. By all accounts, Steve Hankin and the management team have done an excellent job handling the situation. For the upcoming week 5 competition, no new horses will be allowed on the grounds, a prudent move though obviously very disappointing for hundreds of competitors. The FEI competition for week 5 has also been canceled. The day is coming when more bio-security measures will be in place for entry onto competition grounds. UPDATE: Week 5 has been canceled! This is terrible news, affecting thousands of people in the sport.
